Manasquan, NJ - With his fiery, poignant, soulful singing style, Richie Havens has remained unique and ageless since his historic appearance at Woodstock back in 1969. He has performed for over thirty years, produced over twenty-five albums, and now for the first time ever will perform live at Algonquin Arts on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 8 pm.

Richie Havens is known for performing songs about brotherhood and personal freedom. In an interview with The Denver Post, Mr. Havens said, I really sing songs that move me. Im not in show business; Im in the communications business. Thats what its about for me.

His most recent collection of songs is featured on his album Nobody Left to Crown released in July 2008 under Verve Records. Nobody Left to Crown demonstrates that Richie Havens has never been more relevant, than he is today. Songs that I wrote at the time are more pertinent today than ever, with this connection that links Vietnam and Iraq, said Richie.

Richie Havens has also appeared on many television programs and acted in four films. Highlights include appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. On The Tonight Show, the audience reacted with such enthusiasm that the applause continued even after the commercial break. Because of this, Johnny Carson asked Richie to return the following night. During that shows long history, the only other guest that was booked on back-to-back nights because of the audiences reaction was Barbara Streisand.

Tickets to see Richie Havens perform live at Algonquin Arts are $42 for adults and $40 for seniors and students. Group rates are also available. To reserve seats or obtain more information, contact the box office at 732-528-9211 or [email protected]. More information can also be accessed at www.algonquinarts.org. Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Algonquin Arts is conveniently located at 173 Main Street in downtown Manasquan, NJ.
