When Maria proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of the widowed Captain Georg von Trapp.

Her growing rapport with the von Trapp children, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. After their honeymoon, the family's narrow escape from the Nazis over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides a thrilling finale!

Lupi, a veteran of the stage who recently directed Shore Repertory's productions of "Gypsy" and "Man of La Mancha" at the Algonquin stars as Maria. Fresh off a three-month engagement in Wisconsin starring in "Footloose," Rutledge Varley stars opposite Lupi as Captain von Trapp.

Under the direction of Anthony Di Dia, the magnificent cast includes many familiar faces from recent blockbusters on the Algonquin stage. Nancy Bembridge ("Man of La Mancha") features as Mother Abbess, while Pati Shaffer (Mrs. Paroo in "The Music Man") and Lynne Truex (Mama Rose in "Gypsy") star as Sister Berthe and Sister Margaretta, respectively.

Bridget Hughes plays the role of the eldest child, Liesl, while the Algonquin Youth Ensemble's Leah Sandow and Tessa Payer understudy the role.

Members of the Algonquin Arts Theatre share the roles of the rest of von Trapp family children: Matt Moran and Jonathan Slovak (Fredrich); Danielle Burg and Rebecca Madiera (Louisa); Jake Walsh and Sean Gassaway (Kurt); Maeve Oldham and Julia Lupi (Brigitta); Nicole Curnan and Claire McGowan (Marta); and Ava Barlow and Elle Zarilla (Gretl).

The cast of more than 40 also includes Algonquin stage veterans Pat Thecker, Connor Sheridan, Ray Topoleski, Stan Marzalek, Olivia Hanewald, Marina Melillo, Jessica Madeira, Victoria Cancro, Fiona Sheridan, Emma Craven, Alexander Scoras and Paul Andrejack in featured and ensemble roles.
