MANASQUAN, N.J. (April 18, 2013) - For almost forty years The Manhattan Transfer has been performing across the United States and around the world. On June 6, the super group headlines the Algonquin Arts Theatre's Annual Gala and help celebrate Algonquin's 75th year helping the community.

Officially "The Black & White Gala: An Evening With The Manhattan Transfer," this event serves as the theatre's major annual fundraiser and supports the programming throughout the remainder of the year. This year's honorees include author Mary Higgins Clark and illustrator Wendell Minor for their contributions to arts education and "Broadway Ray" Soehngen for his contributions to the arts.

Tickets for the event range from $50 to $175 with the top levels including dinner at either Remington's or Firefly ... An American Bistro. To order or for more information call 732-528-9211 or visit algonquinarts.org/gala.

Tim Hauser, a graduate of St. Rose High School in Belmar, N.J., paid his bills by driving a New York City cab while aspiring to form a harmony vocal quartet that could authentically embrace varied musical styles, and still create something wholly unique in the field of American popular song.

After many years of dues-paying and persistence, Hauser continues to perform with the multi-Grammy winning vocal quartet The Manhattan Transfer with Cheryl Bentyne, Alan Paul and Janis Siegel. Hard to categorize "Cabaret Rock" or "Disco Sha Na Na" were some of the labels attached to them their popularity grew solidly to become one of the most dominate groups in music through the 1970s and 1980s with hits including of "Birdland," "Route 66" and "The Boy From New York City." Today they continue to be an inspiration to all who hear them.

Clark's books are world-wide best sellers and in the U.S. alone she's sold more than 100 million copies, and Minor is an nationally recognized illustrator who has collaborated with Clark on several projects. Clark & Minor are long time supporters of the arts and last season, they allowed Algonquin Arts Theatre to create and debut a new all-ages musical based on their book "The Magical Christmas Horse."

Soehngen is the founder and president of "Broadway Ray," a Monmouth and Ocean County Premier Charter Bus Tour Company to Broadway and is a dedicated support of the local arts community, including Algonquin Arts Theatre. He served as the co-chair of the Algonquin Arts Theatre Gala in 2011 and 2012.

The 2013 Gala co-chairs are Randy Kornberg, Carol Doherty and Michael Sinneck.
