MANASQUAN, N.J. (Dec. 11, 2013) - All the magic of "The Nutcracker" comes to life on the Algonquin Arts Theatre stage on Dec. 14 and 15 with Tchaikovsky's magnificent score, stunning new sets, thrilling choreography and a massive cast are featured in three performances. American Repertory Ballet's celebrates its 50th season bringing this holiday classic to stages around the state. The organization's professional company is joined by students from Princeton Ballet School to tell the story of a young girl and how a mysterious gift brings about enchanted dreams and fantastical scenes. "The story is familiar, but its magic never grows tiresome," wrote The Star-Ledger after the 2013 season opened in Rahway. "American Repertory Ballet tells it with a wealth of details."

Whether it is your first time, an annual tradition, ARB's Nutcracker is a perfect holiday treat for the entire family. Tickets remain for the two performances on Saturday, Dec. 14 (1 & 4:30 p.m.). The Sunday performance on Dec. 15 is sold out.

Tickets are available online at algonquinarts.org, by calling 732-528-9211 or by visiting the Box Office at 173 Main Street. Tickets start at $38 for adults, $36 for seniors and $28 for students. All tickets are subject to $2 processing fees.

The tradition of American Repertory Ballet's "The Nutcracker" began in 1956 with Audrèe Estey producing the organization's first full-length performance for the Princeton Ballet School's spring show. In 1962, the Princeton Regional Ballet Company premiered the full work at McCarter Theatre, and it has been performed every year since 1964.

Choreography, scenes and costumes have continually evolved through the decades. Two seasons ago, ARB Artistic Director Douglas Martin choreographed an all new Snow scene and Act II and restaged the classic, Victorian era choreography by Audrèe Estey for the Party and Battle scenes. New scenery has been added across the last three years.
